Besides the sweltering heat I feel this has been one of the best weekends that I have had racing so far.
Saturday June 23rd I woke up early and not with much sleep. Besides being tired, the weather outside was very humid and hot. I do have to say, my starts are getting better. After passing 2 or 3 people in my Lightweight Formula-40 race I was in first place. I did go off track (on the inside of a corner, of all places) and got passed back by the trailing rider in 2nd place. I passed him back on corner 7 and was able to take 1st place. My formula-40 race was a great battle, but I had just as much fun battling for second to last place when I was at Road America a few weeks before.
The above video is a quick couple laps in my 1st practice on Sunday.
Sunday June 24th I slept much better but the high heat index of the day was 109deg. The races were shortened from 8 laps to 6. The races I was focusing on were my F-40 race and the Rookies Cup Challenge. I had 3 others that day, but I was using those more or less for track time and experience. Lo and behold though I was able to launch myself into 2nd place though on one of those races that I was using for track time. I was unable to hold onto that position for long though and was soon weeded down to 5th place. I was overheated, and I did not feel well at all. I pitted in early, my health was worth more than trying to climb back up into a podium position.
